| this happened 150 yards behind my house. heard rumbling and went outside to investigate. saw black smoke and heard the fire rescue sirens because they had been notified minutes prior to wreck that it was going to happen. the railroad monitors in ft worth were not able to get in touch with either train via cell phones because they were both in an area with no cell reception. thank god one was empty and the other hauling only rock. | fiddlefolk |

| May 19th, 2004. This was a head-on collision on a non-signaled track. The southbound train missed a stop and was operating with no authority on the track. Crew on the northbound train were able to jump off just prior to impact. The engineer of the southbound was fatally injured. The conductor jumped, but was trapped in the fiery wreckage. He was burned severely but lived. 2 others were injured. | kc8niy |
