SP 4449 Daylight Steam Locomotive
This Southern Pacific Locomotive ran the Coast Daylight route between Los Angeles and San Francisco in the early 1940s. The engine was retired in 1957. After years on display in Portland, Oregon, the engine was fully restored in the 1970s. Today it runs limited tours in the Pacific Northwest. This footage of the 4449 is passing by Bend, Oregon heading back to Portland, Oregon, after an overnight stay in Bend. All the train cars have been fully restored, including the two California Zephyr Cars on the end. Update note: The caretakers of the 4449 are currently hoping to find a permanent home for the SP4449 engine. The current home, The Brooklyn Roundhouse, has an uncertain future, so a new home is being searched for in the Portland area at this time.
