You can always tell an ex-C&NW unit by the gong right on the nose -- seeing that always reminds me of the Old Days 10 or 12 years ago. The patch-job painting just sucks.
A lot of CNW units still exist, but only two with their original paint. The rest have all been repainted and reassigned UP numbers. There are lists out there on the web that you can cross reference the engine numbers with.
I Think the raiways should stop patching their units and call them SP 1934 if that number exists on their roster. I don't like seeing a nice SP unit and it having a big ugly yellow patch on the side and on the nose. Leave it the way it was it just looks better
The only Mo-Pac I ever saw was the last one. There are only 2 in museums. I hardly ever see SP AC's. Most of the unpatched SP suff I see is trailing (with the exception of what I hope to see in about 7 hours).
I agree there. In my opinion the best consist there ever was was CNWs 8646, 8575, and 8701. That was the original trio and nothing will ever be able to beat them. As for unpatched units... I'm an SP fan, but I'm cursed by CNW ATC, so I see them a lot, but they can't ever lead up here, so you've got it better than you think. We never see anything other than the AC units either. Besides ACs, the only other SP units I've seen in my life are 8579 and 8586. Still think you've got it bad? lol
They don't replace the real shit, but they do a good job at tieing you over until unpatched stuff shows up (unless you're a WP, MP, or MKT fan such as I).
We only had it up here for a couple weeks, I'd say it was you guys from down south that let her get dirty ;) I'd say Proviso is doing an excellent job of keeping these good units in captive service on the PRCB/CBPR trains, and they have my thanks. These two aren't any dirtier than typical UP power.
