Dickie Rock - RTÉ documentary - part 2 of 6
http://www.myspace.com/dickierockmusic
One of Ireland's most successful singers ever, Dickie Rock had 25 Irish hits from 1963 to 1983, surpassed only by the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones. During his time with the Miami Showband, Dickie attracted the kind of mass hysteria normally reserved for the Beatles and more recently boybands such as Westlife.

youve got to admit ,that rap is proberly the worst form of music thats ever been thought up,how its lasted so long ,beats me, rappers rap because they cant sing as a whole, awful, shame you didnt have a rap burning party to finish rap, just like they did with disco, disco wasnt that bad though, but lasted a few yeas or more
I'm a statesider, but I'm a rock history freak and so I know Billy Fury very well I am happy to have him in my collection on CDs and DVDs.
You're right, America HAS missed out on a lot of great bands, just like every other country, including the UK. As for "preferring crappy rap and r&b?" Some do here, and some do not. I read the British music papers enough to know that you've got the same situation there-Some good, some bad-that's the way the world goes, eh?
First things first: I'm a yank-Chicago born and raised. In fact, Cliff Richard has hit the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart an amazing 19 times between 1959 "Living Doll" (30) and 1983 "Never Say Die" (73). His biggest hits aside from "Devil Woman" (#6-1976) came between 1980 and 1982.
As to your point about Dickie Rock-c'mon, you know that being GOOD and being TOPS in pops are often 2 different things, right? Can't we all just get along?
what im saying is irelands just over the water an few hours away,if he was that good ,how come he didnt follow other irish singers of the day like val doonigan and the likes ,never saw him on any british shows during that time,as i say never heared of him,bet youve never heared of cliff richard have you .if your a yank
your in the states mate ,billy fury .look him up,he was the biggest pop star here before the beatles, america hardy new abba either yet they were one of the biggest acts in the world in the 70s ,america havent heared of a lot of british acts ,youve made it hard since we dominated america charts in the 60s,and youve missed out on a lots of great bands, prefaring crappy rap and r&b
He was a hero to many in Ireland from a time called the showband era that only people in Ireland at the time would appreciate..Daniel O Donnell has nothing yo do with this type of music or indeed the people who liked it..
Spit on me Dickie!!!!
mass hysteria ,as big as beatles etc ,how come no ones heared of him over here ,??? not a bad singer mind ,but from a country that produced daniel o donnel doesnt suprise me he had many hits in ireland tom jones, billy fury hes not
