| the locomotive is refitted to use oil/diesel in the fire box. this makes it easier to use the engine at this point. but the 4000 (4-8-8-4) class 3900 (4-6-6-4)class and the 4-8-4's all were at one time fired with coal. another draw back to coal is that to fire the unit best it should have the coal it was desined to burn. if not you may have a harder time. | nimrod4017 |
