Lionel Electric Train TV Commercial From The 1960's

Lionel had solid market share on electric trains in the early 1960's. Christmas time was always a fun time, for all the department stores would set up elaborate Lionel train displays. In my home town, Sears always had the best display each Christmas time. There were those part timers that set up workshops in their garage. They specialized in doing repair work. They usually advertised by putting a sign up in their front yard, or painting their advertisement on the side of their garage.

By any chance, was it a set made just for girls ? Lionel tried to market pink and purple trains to girls which was a resounding flop-those sets today however are worth $10,000LFD254
I got one for Christmas when I was a little girl! :D It made me soooo happy! And I still have it today!opennskyy
A few things, from 00:01 to 00:06, I thought it was the begining of an "I Dream of Jeanie" episode. And the test pilot reminds me of Wally Cox.visor109
"you can blow it up again and again" .......was that Jamie & Adam from Mythbusters when they were kids? LOL Nice vid!othersidedown
TAKE THAT COMMIES!! is the tagline they where looking for I think.choc113
Lionel was trying to stem the tide of young kids' interest in the space program. It was better than their pastel colored locos and cars for girls.rwundrock

These things were great fun and violence isn't caused by playing with stuff like that, it's caused by attitude. For the last 30 years TV and movies have warped people's morals and attitudes with insult based comedy and bad language. Now we have nitwits saying the 3 stooges are violent....how come they didn't affect people badly from 1930 to 1970?h0gwartz
And video games are violent? Lol...cottoncandiz116
No, because everyone wants to kill one another in a video game. And then when some dumbass kids blow each other away in a high school..they go why?LS1Heli
